Consultation and Feasibility Study

In design and build, a well-thought-out consultation and feasibility study will be critical to the success of your project. In fact, it’s not just the normal good practice you’d expect from Chartwell; it’s critical. And, this is why:

You need to know – as do we – how realistic and achievable your plan is. Will it gain planning permission, for example? Is it buildable? Above all, the process will help you consider whether it’s worth investing in before you part with any large sums of money.

What is a consultation and feasibility study? In brief, it’s an early-stage written evaluation from the following three angles:

  • Architectural
  • Financial
  • Environmental

Got questions?

When it’s completed, we’ll take you through it. All of it.

We’re jargon-free, but you deserve as much clear, non-complicated data as possible and that’s very much our style. Also, you’ll have a smart, bound paper file to refer to. Or, we can send it via email.

At the same time, we’ll provide you with a detailed proposal for obtaining a lawful development certificate, planning approval, and/or listed building consent, if required.

Fixed price of £499 plus VAT, payable in advance of a site visit

What’s Involved in the Report?

The quick answer is:

A significant amount of detailed work. Here’s everything that happens during the consultation and feasibility study phase:

Site visit: On-site fact-finding, analysis and assessment. Pleased to meet you. Let’s look around and discuss your ideas and objectives. The aim is to build an in-depth understanding of what you need.

Site analysis: Measuring the site boundaries and dimensions, levels and topography, access, existing buildings, trees and landscaping, drainage and utilities and so on.

Research on the history of the site: What’s been here before? How has the site developed?

Obtaining OS mapping: To establish adjacent properties, roads, paths and property boundaries, etc. This exercise helps us confirm the site’s relationship to its surroundings.

Locating utility service mapping: Identifying all existing and proposed utility services that could affect your project design and construction. For instance, gas, electricity, water, telecoms, drainage and so on.

Concept sketch idea: Before we produce detailed drawings, you’ll see our creative suggestion of how your project could work. Think: Layout, materials, features, function – all the good things.

Preliminary cost indication: At this stage, we can’t be precise, but you’ll have a ballpark estimate.

The Chartwell Difference

This consultation and feasibility study phase will, we hope, begin to define our standout differences: an all-in-one report that outlines both the design and build stages and brings everything together under one roof.

Equally, you’ll absorb how much more streamlined everything is going to be, with two disciplines combined.

Integrity underpins everything we do, so we’ll only offer you our expertise if, quite literally, we can.
